PHILIPPE BRUNEL ACOUSTIC BAND
This is a five parts band, that boards you in for a trip through harbours over the world.
Philippe Brunel (Guitars)
After having studied harmony and counterpoint in Paris' Scholas Cantorum and many miscellaneous musical experiments (Marquis de Sade, Oxo, Blue Fleet, Acoustic Experience, DYP Project...) his thirty years of musical research come to the creation, in June 2014, of this five parts instrumental band, playing a set of his original compositions. He played on numerous stages, among wich the Vieilles Charrues Festival, Rendez-vous de l'Erdre, Carré des larrons, Biking festival in Rouen, Jazz a Vannes Festival etc...
Gabriel Faure (Violin, Mandola)
Gabriel starts learning music at the same age he learns to read. He studies classical music in Caen's conservatoire until the age of 17, then discovers the music of oral transmission in irish music sessions. Gabriel settles in Nantes in 2004 where he forms the fest-noz band Kelien. He gets a dimloma of breton trad music in Nantes conservatoire in 2008. He is also interested in other musical styles, like balkan-klezmer, bluegrass and gypsy jazz, and also oriental music.
Eva Monfort (Bass, Upright Bass)
Plays music since 20 years, she is taught by several professionnal bass players, then in conservatoire, and in the jazz school of Eric Le Lann. Plays in many bands, "Sabatoo", "Raggalendo", "Republik", "Santa Claws", "La Cosecha"... Stage and studio bass and double bass player, she brings in the groove and passion from african rock style. It is during her trips to Cuba, Senegal and Mali that she gets specialized, by being in touch with great musicians such as Cheik Amadou Tidiane Seck, Barou Diallo, Mountaga Diabaté, Bourama Diabaté.
David "Hopi" Hopkins (Percussions)
Irish musician living in France since 1992, Hopi took part in many breton bands : Barzaz, Bleizi Ruz, An Tourtan, Elixir, Guichen quartet... and also recorded with Alan Stivell, Didier Squiban, Pat O'May, Myrdhin. He is nowadays on stage with Barzaz, Buzz Buddies, An Bothar, Thomas-Hopkins Quartet. His numerous encounters with jazz, turkish, greek arabic musicians, have made his passion for musics and drums from all over the world grow.
Gérard Macé (Drums)
After having taken part in many experiments alongside well known musicians : Dan Ar Bras, Alan Stivell, Alan Simon, Pierre Sellin, Hildegarde Wanslawe, Jacky Bouilliol, Jacques Pellen, Didier Squiban, Véronique Leberre, Daniel Huck, Sambossa, Trevor Stent, Pickey Butler, Tony Marshall, Billy Harper, Sarah Lazarus, André Villéger... Gérard Macé continues his journey of musician, composer and pedagogue with happiness and enthousiasm.
